Horizontal Stripe Love

I'm pretty into stripes at the moment, especially colourful horizontal ones. We all know that according to the "fashion rules" horizontal stripes are a big no no if you're a little curvy, and well I disagree. You can wear whatever the hell you want always and forever, and I for one think that horizontal stripes look amazing on curves. I'm not afraid of my belly being on show, in fact I think it can look pretty sexy. So as soon as I saw this dress over at ASOS I knew I wanted to have it on my curvy body!

Dream Dress

If you follow me on Snapchat (fashionhayley) then you would know I tried on my dream dress on Friday and just had to buy it immediately, then wear it two days in a row because I love it that much. The dress in question is the one I'm wearing in this post, a white broderie anglaise lace dress with bell sleeves and a two tiered short skirt from Seed Heritage - to be perfectly honest it is actually my dream wedding dress, exactly what I imagine wearing if I were to ever get married again, like EXACTLY what I always dream of for that occasion. Anyway, as I am not getting married any time soon I thought, you know what, I can damn well wear this dress anyway and in a way marry myself by treating myself to a dress that makes me feel this happy. Everyone on my Snapchat told me to buy it while I was trying it on and even though I didn't need their reassurance it did definitely cement my decision. I wore it to the new collection launch of Twoobs as seen on my instagram on Saturday, then on Sunday I wore it to my Snapchat meet up picnic which is when I took these photos with the amazing help of Natalie who has an awesome comic book she just released. The picnic was really a lot of fun, it was so lovely to meet people who watch my snaps every day.

While Natalie and I were taking my blog photos this cute little sausage dog named Audrey waned to join in on the fun.

A little too fast for my pat haha.

What a cutie! My heart still breaks with missing my dog Hachiko as my ex won't let me see him, but chance encounters with cute dogs at the park do perk me up.

I have had my pink parasol for so many years but it never gets old, it always looks so fun and chic.

Bold Shoulder

I have been pretty obsessed with off the shoulder everything this summer so as soon as I saw this dress by Boom Shankar pop up in my instagram feed as in an ad I knew I had to get it. Somehow all my google search history came to bite me on the arse as the dress of my late night searching dreams was right there in my feed with a shopable link. Ahhh the times we live in hey? Anyway I do indeed love this dress and algorithms or whatever computer magic they used aren't all bad as I did find this dress with their help. Thank you computer magic!

Oh boy this is my newest and most favouritest jewellery EVER. Look at that Happy balloon bangle and unicorn balloon brooch from Kate Spade and don't tell me they don't bring a smile to your face. I lusted after them for about a month before I caved and bought them. They're just so bloody amazing I couldn't resist. The flower ring is another new addition and it's by Adelaide designer Naomi Murrell - and guys it is reversible! Who even knew that was possible? Multi-functional jewellery - I dig it!

Pop Art at Home

Home is where the heart is as they say and it is really very true for me. I love my little apartment with all it's fun, cute and bright nicknacks that I have collected from around the world. I love being able to decorate as I want now that I am single which means my home looks exactly like my wardrobe - bright and colourful with a hell of a lot of pink! This dress by Seagrass Design immediately caught my eye with its pop art inspired print and as soon as I put it on inside my lounge room I knew I wanted to shoot the outfit right there - it just matched so very perfectly.

Seagrass Design are a Launceston design duo who not only do amazing original prints and manufacture everything locally in Tasmania but heir clothes also go up to a size 18 off the rack or they can custom make your size if you need! That is absolutely amazing news for all my fashion loving plus size readers as I know how hard it is to find unique and stylish clothes in size fat. The fabric is a wonderfully soft rayon that doesn't cling to you at all and the quality of the garment really impresses me, it feels like it will last hundreds of wears. I am very excited to find a new innovative label coming from the Apple Isle, especially as they have a physical store to visit in Launceston which is very close to where my mum now lives - I can't wait to pay them a visit on my next trip down!

I am sure I will get questions about where some of the items in my lounge room are from so here goes:

Sisters Are Doin' It for Themselves

My sister Ebony, and I had the pleasure of taking over the newly launched Twoobs Snapchat account on Saturday (go ahead and follow them @twoobs and me @fashionhayley while you're at it, I freaking love Snapchat) Anyway we had a really fun day of shopping the new season launch at Mister Zimi which was crazily busy as this new collection has so many to die for pieces, I want one of everything, but luckily I didn't go too crazy and only bought the above dress in the 'Poppy' print whilst Ebs bought the matching 'Poppy' jumpsuit and a top and skirt in the pink 'Desert Lily' print. This is my first Mister Zimi purchase and I was happily surprised by the sizing, Due to their returns policy I was reluctant to purchase online without first trying on the pieces which is why we headed down to the launch, and whilst the size 14 jumpsuit was never going to get over my butt I ended up being a 12 in a few of the skirts, dresses and tops (basically all of my weight is carried in my bottom half). So if you're on the curvier side like me I wouldn't be afraid of heading in store and trying on some pieces because they can work for you - especially as a lot of the tops have fluted sleeves which allow for arm fat which I know can be an issue with other straight sized brands not grading up the arms in larger sizes. Sizing is weird in all stores so as always I tend to ignore the number on the tag and simply try things on because you never know what will work for you and how you want the piece to fit. In recent weeks I've bought everything from a size 10 jumper as I preferred the length on me to a size 16 dress because the 14 wouldn't get over my hips so that just goes to show you just really never know.

We went to Luna Park to recreate one of my most famous fashionhayley Snapchat moments - me screaming on a roller coaster at the Royal Melbourne Show. Unfortunately I got in trouble for using my phone on the ride (I have a case with a handle that can go over my wrist so there was no risk to the safety of the people below) so the short clip I got was at a kinda terrible angle but oh well it was still fun. My sister was feeling a bit sick so she skipped the ride and my ex boyfriend Stephen who met us to take our new outfit #twinning photos came on with me, PS how good a job did he do taking our photos for our impromptu matching outfit photo shoot? Thanks m8!

It was sent to me in a HUGE box that said to be careful when you cut it open as inside was a freaking HELIUM BALLOON! Honestly all parcels should come with a helium balloon, it certainly made my day!

Our shopping bags from Mister Zimi came with these cute pom pom's attached to the strap so we added them to our bags cos why not?

Honestly it was such a fun day, non stop laughing and good times!

Vote YES because LOVE IS LOVE

My love for all things RAINBOW has gained a new meaning with the marriage equality postal vote that is now taking place in Australia. As someone who believes strongly in equality for all I will of course be voting a big fat YES on my form. I really feel for those in the LGBTQIA community who are struggling since the announcement of this postal vote, struggling because their lives and rights are being questioned and debated publicly with such hatred and homophobia coming out in full force. It really should not be up for public debate at all, the government should have taken a stand and made marriage equality legal a long time ago. If you don't like gay marriage then the answer is pretty simple, vote yes and then just don't get gay married yourself. Why should you have a say in how other people live their lives? So please if you are in Australia and of a legal age to vote please vote YES and let everyone have the chance at having their relationship recognised. Love is love 💗💙💚💛💜

Yayoi Kusama 'Life is the Heart of a Rainbow' at QAGOMA

On the weekend I had the absolute pleasure of being the guest of the fabulous QAGOMA in Brisbane for the Yayoi Kusma 'Life is the Heart of a Rainbow' exhibition opening. To say that this was the most incredible exhibition I have ever seen is an understatement. I have loved Yayoi Kusama actually since first discovering her work at the very same gallery in 2002 at the Asia Pacific Triennial of Contemporary Art (well when it was just the Queensland Art Gallery as GOMA opened in 2006) when I went to Brisbane on my own version of a 'schoolies' trip (schoolies is an end of high school giant party typically on the beach, like spring break in the USA I guess. My version was more visiting art galleries and markets whilst staying with friends than drinking too many UDL's before passing out on the beach). So to me having that very gallery where I discovered the artist for the first time as an 18 year old invite me to the opening and fly me up was mind blowing, a full circle moment, honestly 18 year old me would not believe it for a minute.

Seeing 'I want to Love on the Festival Night' in person was everything to me.

My friends Lucinda and Haidee checking out the art at the media preview.

I wore my new Mireia Ruiz for Gorman dress and Twoobs for Gorman shoes to the media preview.

'The Spirit of the Pumpkins Descended to the Heavens'

 'Dots Obsession'

This is the 3rd time I have now seen 'The Obliteration Room' at the gallery in Brisbane, the first time was all those years ago as an 18 year old.

I got to meet the fabulous Brisbane creative identity Rachel Burke from imakestagram

We were a bit drunk from free champers at the opening night and kept setting of the door sensors for the 'Soul Under The Moon' piece and didn't get to experience the full sensory overload. An excuse to revisit before the exhibition closes I think.

'My Eternal Soul' is a series where the artist challenged herself to make a series of 100 canvasses over an 18 month period in 2009-2010. Once the challenge was over she decided to keep working at the same pace and has continued to paint in this way ever since with her paintings now culminating in the high hundreds.

I wore my rainbow outfit from my last blog post to the opening night in honour of the rainbow theme of the exhibition.

'Experiments in Japan' from her return from NYC to Japan in the 1970's.

I was put up in the fabulous Art Series Hotel in Spring Hill called The Johnson. Upon checking in I was informed they had an award winning pool so I immediately knew what I was going to do after the mornings media preview - champers and uber eats by the pool of course!

 Living the life!

My Brissy bff Lucinda and I own matching Barbie togs (although mine were from Myer Miss Shop and hers from Big W) so we decided to do an impromptu photoshoot with the inflatable flamingo my sister leant me for the trip.

 Barbie Girls!

Not content with one fabulous day by the pool. the next day Lucinda, Felix the Flamingo and I decided to spend the day in the pool at Lucinda's parents amazing apartment. Honestly I had the most amazing trip up to Brisbane, as I always do, it's one of my favourite cities to visit in Australia and I can't recommend a trip up to visit the gallery and enjoy the sunshine enough.

Wow! Long time no blog post. I have to say I have missed posting on this ol' thing but I definitely needed the break. Starting this blog back in September 2006 I had no idea I would still be sharing my life as 'Fashion Hayley' a whopping 13 years later, albeit these days mostly on Instagram which wasn't even a thing back when I started. I am hoping to reinvigorate my love for this space, but please don't hold my word to it. It's a different world, and I am a different person these days. A lot has changed since I last blogged, but at the core of it all I am still the same fashion obsessed girl who just wants to share her obsession with the world.

How effing cute is this place? I have been meaning to check out the semi newly opened Peaches in the city since it opened and honestly I wish I had gone in sooner. It is absolutely without a doubt my new favourite bar in Melbourne. Can't wait to go on some predictably disappointing tinder dates here, because no matter how bad the date, I will never leave unhappy after being surrounded by such a beautifully peachy pink interior! Plus they do Pickleback shots - which I am obsessed with but they're so hard to find. It's so bright and colourful I nearly needed to wear my Chloe Sunglasses inside!

Arid Garden

Skin care is a relatively new obsession for me, especially as I'm heading deeper into my thirties (yikes what, how did that even happen?) I'm desperately trying to reverse the damage caused by the sun, thank you to living in Australia! I am lucky that my skin only really gets hormonal breakouts around that time of the month so I don't really have to worry too much about those, but I do have some light scarring from my teenage years. Also wrinkles! Let's talk about those little buggers slowly creeping onto my face. My forehead is actually heavily wrinkled, I think it's from squinting all those years I didn't have glasses but needed them. Luckily I don't have to worry too much about those because they're hidden under my fringe haha! I do worry though, and I like to slather it up with night creams, moisturisers and daily sun protection! So when the folks at Activeskin got in touch with me to send over some samples I was very excited as I love testing out new skin care products to see what will and won't work on my skin. Activeskin is your one stop shop for all things skin care and below are my top pics from their vast range!

The perfect daily cleansing foam that works brilliantly with my Clarisonic. Removes excess makeup, oil and dirt for a really deep clean and is frangrance free which is perfect for my sensitive skin!

Lightweight and oil free this moisturiser is great for those with oily or combination skin as it combats oil whilst also moisturising the dry areas.

Sunscreen is such an important part of your daily skincare regime, I never leave home without it. I love this sunscreen as it doesn't leave my skin feeling sticky and greasy afterwards which makes it perfect for under my makeup.

I swear by my Clarisonic, have been using it for nearly two years now and see an incredible difference in my skin. However mine is the plain old white one, seriously considering upgrading to the pink because we all know what pink means to me!

Me and my newly refreshed skin went on a fabulous outing to the beautiful Arid Garden in Melbourne's Royal Botanic Gardens on the weekend. Cactuses, unlike your skin, don't need a whole lot of water or care in order to thrive so it is kind of an ironic place for a photo-shoot about moisturising haha!

However my dress was covered in this beautiful cacti print by local Melbourne label Rouda that I picked up at the recent Magic Designer Sale. Sign up to their facebook page to find out when the next sale is on, but basically it's a twice yearly sale of local designers old season stock. I always find something amazing at the sale, this year I bought the Poms Jewellery ring and bangel in this post as well as the dress and I spent a total of $180 which is a bargain considering the dress alone was originally well over that at full retail price! I do love a bargain!

Giving some good skin thanks to Activeskin!

I found this cute little lilac backpack whilst in Noosa at the end of last year for $10. I regret not also getting it in the pink but I'm pretty sure I'll find a cute little pink backpack in Tokyo next month (I'm headed there after Vietnam, eeep can't wait!). My new Poms ring and bangle are so cute they kill me!

Still getting much wear out of these seriously comfy heels. Definitely taking them with me to Tokyo!
