A POC on Your House

$

I have wanted a piece by local Melbourne label POC since I first saw the designers individual RMIT graduate collections back in 2012 so I was really happy to score this dress from their first POC collection on the weekend at the fundraising garage sale I mentioned in my last post. The garage sale was raising much needed money for 19 year old Isabelle 'Baby Riss' Ruiz who has been diagnosed with the rare, life threatening blood disease aHUS, the medicine for which is not subsidised by the government making it grossly expensive and out of reach. Her medicine costs $600 000 per year! You can help by donating directly over at her Fundly campaign and like their facebook page to keep up to date on their campaign and Baby's health. In terms of the dress I am so happy to have been able to have my money go to a good cause AND get a dress I love and have wanted forever! I love how the local fashion community got together to donate their wears for the cause - it makes me want to support the designers who donated even more.

Valentines Day Spring Break

$

For Valentines Day this year Henry surprised me with a breakfast in bed of heart shaped crumpets on a heart shaped plate (as you can see on my instagram). Anyway, underneath the heart shaped plate were two tickets for Luna Park, a special Valentines Day unlimited ride ticket that also included free fairy floss, a special ride photo and one free carnival game. This was extra special as Henry absolutely hates rides, crowds and just about everything Luna Park stands for, but he knows I love it, always have and always will. Our first stop for the evening was St Kilda beach for some fish and chips watching the sunset.

Yay, Luna Park time. I actually have a cute couple shot of Henry and I over on instagram but annoyingly the Luna Park sign and our feet were cut off. Geez Louise, when are the strangers you rope into taking photos of you at tourist spots going to learn about framing? Ha ha.

I actually bought this Emma Mulholland t-shirt that day from the Magic Designer Sale held in Fitzroy. I do believe it's a mens tee, but oh well, and I'm also wearing it backwards because I freaking love the Spring Break design and thought it was kinda perfect for a night by the beach at an amusement park.

I've been a bit lost style wise of late. I'm kinda over pink but also still totally in love with the colour which I know makes no sense whatsoever. So I'm just going to roll with it and when I'm in a pink mood go all out. I guess that is what this outfit is, I was in an all out pink mood but perhaps it will be the last of my all pink super kawaii looks? Still deciding on that.

Pineapples at #VAMFF Runway 3

My first show of the week for Virgin Australia Melbourne Fashion Festival aka #VAMFF was Runway 3 presented by Frankie Magazine which featured some of my favourite local designers such as Alpha60, Kuwaii and of course Gorman. So in honour of this fact I wore pretty much head to toe Gorman to the show as I've been loving them so much recently. Yes, I bought even more of the pineapple print Spring/Summer collection which conveniently has been on sale in stores recently. How could I say no to this gingham and pineapple print dress for under $100? I actually tried it on at the start of the season but wasn't convinced that the boxy shape suited me. It's also a little too short for me to wear without tights so luckily I bought it at the start of Autumn when the weather is just right for a light weight dress and tights combo. I teamed it with my favourite polka dot parka from Gorman last season which they've re-released in a few new tempting prints this season (which you'll see below in my runway coverage). I actually have two other Gorman looks to share with you also bought on sale - this obsession is kinda getting out of hand don't you think?

I kinda love how my new hair looks here. So sharp and blunt. Too bad it's such a bitch to get to sit like this about 99% of the time. Fine hair is just so whispy and flyaway I dream of having thick hair that sits how you set it.

When will I get over wearing these sunglasses I hear you ask? Well the answer is NEVER!!! These are just the best sunglasses to ever exist in all of history.

Gorman
Gorman's new Autumn/Winter collection features their signature oversized prints and cute matching separates that team perfectly together. Dressing head to toe in this label and still looking unique and individual is actually very possible as I can attest to. This season's print is an all over vegetable print, which surprise surprise I love. Gorman in my opinion is going from strength to strength in asserting their aesthetic and place in the market.

Alpha60
Alpha60's aesthetic has matured in recent years whilst also discarding what I thought was one of their key markets by dropping their menswear line, which is very missed by a few of my male friends. The focus on womenswear however has seemed to improve the collections focus which they seemed to have lost in seasons past. They have also expanded into a much coveted footwear line (as evidenced by a certain facebook resale page where they pop up from time to time to much excited 'sold' and 'next in line' comments). As they were the first to walk the runway my photos aren't the best as I tried to adjust quickly to the lighting settings, sorry about that.

Búl
Bul is a label which has just seemed to pop up in seemingly no time at all out of nowhere with 5 stores across the country and a devoted fan base. Personally Bul does nothing for me with it's minimalist aesthetic and tonal colour palette but I can see its appeal. I especially loved the draped dress in rust and hope to see it being worn around Melbourne this winter.

Jolet
Known for their photographic digital prints and use of sheer layers Jolet showed a collection that didn't disappoint. Their outerwear was a highlight with a colour blocked coat that I loved.

Kuwaii
I've noticed people in Melbourne think you spell kawaii kuwaii and it's all because of this label and it's play on words name. The thing is Kuwaii's collections are actually really kawaii, their recent Spring/Summer collection especially so with it's soft pastel palette and cute cuts. The Autumn/Winter collection presented at VAMFF Runway 3 expanded upon that kawaii aesthetic with a more grown up take with incredible technique and attention to detail whilst still using the colour pink. Kuwaii's shoes are always a highlight and this season I want just about every pair!

Leonard Street
To me Leonard Street are like Gorman's kid sister - a younger, cuter take coming from a similar place aesthetically Also the cuts are smaller which does lend itself to a younger wearer - there have been a few pieces I could've seen myself wearing over the years but the smaller cut has meant I've been sized out of the brand. This season there are some oversized jackets and stretchy knits which do seem promising, I especially loved the navy blue button down dress with the peaked sleeves, will report back to you if it does indeed fit. The little navy biker jacket also caught my eye - I am loving that whole outfit to be honest.

Livia Arena
The last time I remember seeing a Livia Arena collection I just remembered a lot of white shirting (albeit interesting cuts with slashes and cut outs) so this collection was a welcome surprise. The hip hop/boxing inspired draw string silk shorts are very on trend right now but these have been tastefully crafted and I can see them being popular around Melb town which has gone 90s hip hop crazy it seems. The camel slashed coat is a must have from this collection.

I wore this outfit to VAMFF's Graduate Showcase - photos of which will finally be up on the blog this week. For now I wanted to share with you my super kawaii all pink outfit. So much for being over pink - I don't think that will ever actually happen to be honest, I mean how could it? I bought the Romance Was Born t-shirt earlier this year at the Boxing Day sales at David Jones (FYI it's still on sale). I loved their collaboration with Australian artists Pip & Pop who created the amazing set for their MBFWA runway show last year so owning a piece of that magic collection is a dream come true. The over the top pom pom cardigan was a Tokyo purchase from my last visit back. I got it at 'it' shop Bubbles in Harajuku but sadly the pom poms all started to fall off on my first wear - luckily this happened in very friendly Tokyo where I had people running after me pom pom in hand after seeing it fall off - this happened at the train station, at a cafe and on the street. Anyway Henry offered to sew them on more securely for me and now they should last, just not sure how to wash it?

So many pom poms! Gotta love it.

I bought these Karen Walker Helter Skelter sunglasses on a buy and sell facebook page but am a little unsure if they suit me. It's kinda too late to on sell them though as I already had my prescription put in, although I did keep the original lenses. My favourite Karen Walker Orbit's have proved to be impossible to get my prescription lenses in because of the unusual metal pieces around frame. Not sure what to do, let me know what you think in the comments.

Long time no blog! This was the longest break I've taken in 7 years of blogging. I don't know if you've noticed but I've not really been blogging as often as I once did. Perhaps it's the 7 year itch? I've not been feeling as inspired to blog of late even though I've continued to take photos at events and of my outfits. So much of it is good content that I do really want to share with you but I've just not been able to get the words down and write. Bloggers block, is that a thing? Regardless of all that I am currently back in Tokyo, only 6 months on from my last trip here. If I could keep returning every 6 months then I would definitely be a very happy girl. Especially now that an AMAZING plus size store has opened up in Shibuya 109!!! Shopping for clothes in Tokyo has always been difficult for those above a size 8, even my skinny friends find it difficult as most shops only have one size, yep that's right, one size! So it is very exciting that Punyus, headed by famous Japanese comedian Naomi Watanabe who is famous for her Beyonce spoof performances. Punyus was my very first stop once we landed in Tokyo and I bought the above Strawberry print top and skirt that I had lusted after as soon as I saw them in the newly launched online store.

What is most interesting about Punyus is that the store starts at skinny sizes and ends at plus sizes. So both straight sized customers and plus size shop and work there which is AMAZING. Why does plus size have to be separate? This is proof that it doesn't. The lookbook also shows Naomi Watanabe rocking the designs next to a straight sized model showing just how awesome both plus sized and straight sized girls can look in the clothes. I've seen just as many cool Harajuku skinny fashion kids carrying Punyus shopping bags or wearing the designs as I've seen cool fat babes wearing it too. The flagship store is at Shibuya 109 (B2 floor) and the line is also carried at parent company We-Go's many stores across the country. The line is only three to four sizes depending on the item. As I said Japan is used to one size fits all sizing so four sizes is a big deal. It starts at size 1 which is an Aus 6-8, size 2 is an Aus 10-12, size 3 is an Aus 14-16 and size 4 is an Aus 18-20. So no it's not incredibly plus sized but I guess the demand for that isn't just isn't there. I do see cute fat girls all the time and I've always wondered where the bloody hell they shopped for clothes in Japan and now thanks to Punyus I know where they will be shopping from now on. It's an exciting time for plus size fashion in Japan as there is also a recently launched plus size fashion magazine called La Farfa. Yes a whole magazine dedicated to plus size fashion in print! I bought a copy of the latest issue and can't wait to share some of the features with you soon.

JD Sports in the UK sent me this awesome pair of pink Nike printed roshe sneakers to review (although they call them trainers over in the UK). They're so bloody comfy and go perfectly with my 'pink core' outfit, which is my version of norm core. Norm core is all about wearing plain muted pieces like turtle necks, denim jeans and teaming the look with sneakers, it's a look that is all over Melbourne right now. Well I could never tone it down like that, it's just not me. But I can take elements of the trend like turtle necks (the Punyus tee has a turtle neck) and sneakers but make them pink, loud and bold which is much more me. Pink core forever!

I wore this outfit to go to the Tokyo Design Festa at Tokyo Big Sight in Odaiba. Tokyo Big Sight is kinda a futuristic place so I wanted to look kinda futuristic myself. I think I achieved this no? Or at least wearing head to toe white just seems very futuristic to me because obviously in the future stains are a thing of the past thanks to advanced fabric technology...or something. Anyway, I bought the skirt with the jumper arms just before I left for Tokyo from a local Melbourne label called Verner. Headed up by Ingird Verner who used to be the V in my favourite old Melbourne label TV (The T being Monica Tywanek) the new label brings that playful punch that I miss ever so much from TV. The kawaii laundry powder motif reminds me of the now iconic Simpsons episode where Homer finds his likeness the star of a Japanese dish washing powder commercial as 'Mr Sparkle', but maybe that's just me? I really like that the jumper arms are actually functional and the skirt can be worn both as a jumper or a skirt. It's that playful punch that I love in fashion.

I've been a long time fan and supporter of Brandon from Lactose Intoler-Art's work, first blogging his Japanese street style inspired drawings back in 2008. He's come a long way since then, moving to Tokyo himself, getting stockists of his jewellery and soon to be launched clothing range and collaborating with a Singapore based designer on a collection that walked the runway at Seoul fashion week!!! I actually will be blogging a home/studio visit I did with him whilst in Tokyo, plus a little video we filmed really soon (I promise Brandon!!!). I love this necklace he gave me so much and felt it was fitting to wear it to Tokyo Design Festa.

This backpack ended up being a total bust. I wore it one day with a pink dress and somehow the pink transferred onto the bag. I thought it must have been the dress so I replaced the bag for the same one and then sadly the same thing happened again - I wore it with a green dress and the bag turned green. The bag was only $20 and there was no point in trying to return or exchange it - often there are no return or exchange polices at stores in Japan, plus explaining it would've been a nightmare. So $40 down the drain and no bag to show for it. Oh well, it just goes to show you that buying cheap shit just ain't going to last you.

This dress is another piece I allowed myself to buy just before I went away. Usually I ban all shopping before a big overseas trip in order to save money, but I really wanted to have some cool new threads to wear in Tokyo AND I was turning the big 3.0 so I thought heck I kinda deserve me some new shit. It may seem like all I ever have is new clothes, which I guess is true being a fashion blogger and all, but the truth of it is my wardrobe is actually very small and considered. People have been surprised by how small it actually is. I live by the rule one thing in means one thing out (which is why I'm always having garage sales) but I also prefer to spend more per piece to buy quality or interesting unique design over quantity. Being a size 16 or plus size does make this a little harder which also reduces how much I own because if half the shit I liked would fit my fat arse then I'd own it all and more often than not it doesn't so I don't buy anything for months at a time. That's why I love this custom made dress by recent UK fashion graduate Jade Clark. Made to my measurements to fit me I just love it and it really didn't cost much at all for a custom made piece at $120 including shipping!!! You need to follow Jade's instagram to see her latest designs that she can custom make for you, there's a few new things I have my eye on.

Sad face because I didn't win the kawaii lamb plushie in the UFO catcher .·´¯`(>▂<)´¯`·.

Tokyo is the land of amazing clip-on earrings! Every cute jewellery store has a wall of regular earrings and then the same range in clip-ons which is unheard of here in Oz. Whilst my clothing wardrobe may be small my jewellery collection is out of control and has something like nine drawers devoted to it plus various wall hangings and hooks. And yes most of it is plastic! I generally prefer to buy and support local jewellery designers but in Tokyo I allow myself some cheap fun because well it is cheap and fun! The Cats Tsumori Chisato flower bangler was one of my 30th birthday pressies from Henry and I adore it. I'm thinking about doing another Tokyo Haul video like last year because I got so much good stuff on this trip!

Do you do this thing where you buy something new, get obsessed with it for a week and wear it almost daily and then promptly forget about it for the next few months? That's the story of my life, I get obsessed with a new piece and wear it to death. That's why I've been wearing this new dress I picked up at Gorman's outlet store everywhere this week. I bought it to wear to an event at Melbourne Museum for their current Aztecs exhibition (a must see!) and then wore it out the next day with Henry to the NGV to see Paola Pivi's 'You started it..I finish it' exhibition. I'd been seeing the fluoro polar bears pop up on instagram and just had to check it out for myself and it didn't disappoint. The exhibition is the height of kawaii kitsch, the polar bears are each posed in adorable ways distinctive to their imagined personalities. I fell in love with all the pink ones (of course!)

I was so excited to find this dress and have it fit me. I actually tried it on a few times when it was originally out last summer but found that the ruffle section stuck out horizontally on me as if it didn't fit which led me to not buying it at the time. I have no idea what has happened between January and July but somehow the same dress in the same size actually fit me. I wasn't even going to try it on but it was so cheap I couldn't help myself. Who knows why it suddenly fit me as I'm pretty positive I haven't lost any weight.

Winter in Melbourne is all about layering. It's a must in this city of four seasons in one day, so that's why we're always carrying around cardigans, rain coats and umbrella's as you just don't know what to expect. That's why I love this lightweight floral rain poncho by Tsumori Chisato I picked up whilst in Tokyo last month. It's not only cute and fun - it's practical too! You see it folds up into an easy pouch so you can slip it right into your bag to use when needed. I love it's fun colours and floral print though so I've just been wearing mine as much as possible (mixing prints is a bit of an obsession of mine), but as the weather warms up I can see myself popping it into my bag for those colder moments Melbourne is known for.

I bought this cropped red jumper at Target on sale for $15 the other week when I was caught out in exactly one of those bitterly cold Melbourne moments and needed something fast as I'd forgotten my cardigan. Thankfully I found this and I think it works perfectly layered with this outfit. I think cropped style tops work really well on my body even though they're actually considered a plus size no-no. Obviously I don't listen to those out dated fashion rules and you shouldn't either! Stuff the rules, wear what you want and you'll look fabulous (like me haha).

What's this? Another Gorman dress? Why yes. Yes it is. You could say I have a slight addiction to the brand right now. But it's not my fault that they produce so many cute dresses now is it? Anyway I bought this dress the other week after waiting and waiting for it to go on sale but it just never did so I caved and bought it full price because I didn't want to miss out. That is until it went on sale today. So yes while I paid full price you can now get it on sale for $40 off. Lucky you! I'm just so in love with the dress that it doesn't matter too much that I missed out on getting it on sale.

Look how cute the cat ear shaped flaps are on the pockets of the rain poncho! Kawaii!

I'm very lucky that my street here in Melbourne has a lot of incredible street art. It really makes walking the dog a lot of fun, seeing what is new on the walls this week. They also conveniently make great backdrops for blog outfit photography! I thought this 'Living the Dream' piece by artist Camille Walala was the perfect backdrop for my super colourful almost Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat inspired outfit. The dress is a new buy from local Melbourne label Obus. I instagram'd a change room try on pic asking if I should indeed buy it and got an overwhelming response of HECK YES! So not one to disappoint the people (what did I just say?) I went ahead and bought it. I'm selfless like that, always thinking of others! Jokes aside I do love this dress, the Aguayo inspired print is just incredible.

AGL is celebrating energy in our everyday lives and have asked me to share with you how I use energy in my morning routine. My bedroom is usually pretty dark when I wake up in the mornings so the very first thing I do is turn on my super cute pineapple lamp and then check my phone which has been charging over night on my bedside table. I actually love this little corner of my bedroom so much with all my matching white, red and yellow pieces, it's so happy and bright. One of the best things in the world is morning cuddles with Hachiko, especially a freshly groomed Hachi at that! Hachiko had his spring haircut this week and is just the cutest thing ever right now and I just can't get enough.

Oh Hachi you are the cutest!

My house is full of tiles so to keep my feet warm I always wear slippers around the house. These hot pink Ugg Australia boots are actually all kinds of amazing. My first 'real' pair of Ugg boots and I'm in love not only with just how soft and warm they are but also the amazing hot pink colour.

After showering it's makeup time. My light up mirror makes putting on my makeup of a morning a breeze. My bedroom is usually really dark as we like to keep the blinds closed for privacy as our window is right on the street so this mirror is a must have item for me - otherwise I could end up with way too much blush or uneven foundation. A total lifesaver!

I swear by my clothes steamer. I can't imagine going back to a life without it. So much safer for your clothes than a regular iron and without all of the hassle too - no annoying ironing boards or the need for a protective sheet on sensitive fabrics. The best bit it was only $49 from Kmart!

My GHD Air salon professional hair dryer makes such a difference in the morning. It's two times faster than most consumer hair dryers and since using it I really have noticed the difference. One of the biggest selling points for me was it's advanced ionic technology that is meant to reduce frizz and flyaways - which have always been the bane of my existence thanks to my super fine hair. Well I swear this has worked wonders on those.

Once dressed a spritz of perfume and I'm ready to walk out the door.

I'm in love with this new fragrance I was sent from Melbourne's Comme des Garçons Pocket store, Girl by Comme des Garçons and Pharrell Williams with bottle art by Kaws. It's the perfect woody scent and I just love the bottle design.

The final outfit. I actually wore this Tsumori Chisato Cat's paw print dress the other day to a cat themed art exhibition opening at Off The Kerb Gallery so we thought it was fitting to take the photo in front of the giant cat street art just around the corner from my house. Thank you Fitzroy for always providing me with new and interesting outfit photography backdrops! Talking about Fitzroy - a photo of me posing in front of another amazing local street art piece was used in a Vogue USA article on Global Street Style Report: Mapping Out the 15 Coolest Neighborhoods in the World. Me representing Fitzroy, my local hood! Such an amazing surprise!

I'm wearing a lot of Japanese labels in this outfit which makes me so happy as it makes me feel closer to the place that I love so much - if that makes sense at all? Japan will always have a place in my heart (。♥‿♥。)

Purple Picnic

Hello sunshine! Where have you been? It's so good to see you again, thanks for stopping by. So good infact I decided to spend all day yesterday soaking you up in the park. Being 'Fashion Hayley' I couldn't just head to the park in any old garb, no I had to dress up in a crazy all lilac outfit that even accidentally (on purpose) matched my bicycle! Oh, and with a perfectly styled picnic in tow too! My local park was full of people enjoying the sunshine too, which was lovely. Bumped into a few friends. I do love my little Melbourne bubble ever so much. I've been waiting for a chance to use my new picnic basket I bought at a local op shop, it's the cutest picnic basket I have ever seen I think.

I am in freaking LOVE with this whole outfit from City Chic. Yes to the matching prints, yes to the lilac and yes to the painterly floral design. It's probably my most favourite outfit from City Chic ever to be honest, a big departure from their usual collections which I'm very excited about. They just keep on getting more and more bold and fashion forward which I think is needed in the plus size fashion arena. I have wanted a full matching print set for a while now, so I couldn't say no to these when I saw them in store. The best part is Julia Pound the ever stylish buyer and owner of hip Melbourne boutique Dagmar Rousset complimented me on the look and couldn't get over the fact that it was by a plus size brand. I love when that happens, when plus size fashion is coveted by fashion forward straight sized people because for once they can feel our pain of not being able to fit into something awesome. And awesome this look is!

I'm still loving my lilac Reid Cycles vintage style bicycle one year on, Mine hasn't had any of the mechanical issues that some people wrote to me about. Although we bought my sister a mint green one for Christmas and she did have an issue with the chain/gears but that was covered by her warranty. She also rides hers every day to and from work whereas I'm more of a casual weekend rider. Just to note that I did actually buy both of these mentioned bikes, they weren't gifted to me at all, so this is an honest and upfront review of them. For me it's perfect for getting around my neighbourhood AND is just so cute so really it's a win win situation. Cute and useful, what's not to love?

I'm addicted to my shellac manicures. So much so that I've almost sold my entire nail polish collection. Why paint my own nails when shellac lasts so much longer and doesn't chip at all? I'm in love with Goddess of Nails and Beauty at the Emporium because they have the most amazing selection of colours I have ever seen as I shared over on my instagram. There is almost too many to choose from. I've been getting a pink base colour with glitter over the top for the past few months which is fun but maybe I need to change it up a bit. Not sure what to try next, any ideas?

Daring with Keith Haring

It's hard to believe that Keith Haring came out to Australia in 1984 at the height of his fame, on a three week visit to undertake a series of public art projects including this now iconic mural in Collingwood, at what was then the Collingwood Technical College. Added to the Victorian Heritage Register in 2004 and restored in 2013 after deteriorating due to weather exposure it's now more vibrant than I can ever remember seeing. You can see just how faded the mural was over at Art's Victoria. I'm the same age as this mural, I've walked or been driven past (I still don't drive) many times over the years, and it's always amazed me how it's survived all these years without someone tagging over it. It's only one of 31 known surviving murals by Keith Haring in the world today. That being said, Keith Haring actually signed the mural over the small door that you can see in the bottom right of the photo, but that disappeared from the wall shortly after with no trace for many years. As The Age reported that was until Art's Victoria project officer Jessica Hochberg noticed something on instagram which led her to finding the building's old caretaker who had heard something about the door at a party many years before. Somehow the signed door ended up being anonymously handed in thanks to her detective work, just in time for the restoration project. However as you can see in my photo above the signed door is not there, and the last information I can find is that it was placed back during the restoration process in 2013 according this ABC news article. Hopefully it hasn't gone missing again!

This raincoat is everything to me, I'm so glad I decided to buy it on my last day in Tokyo earlier this year. I had been umming and ahhing over it for the whole trip but finally caved on the last day. So happy I did as I've been wearing it so much since it got a bit warmer as it's the perfect lightweight raincoat for those warmer wet days that we get in spring. Plus it's so cute! I get so many compliments on it when out.

I finally got this Obus dress last week after wanting it for over a month. I instagram'd me trying it on in the changeroom and couldn't get it out of my head this whole time. Unfortunately I was having a bit of a lean cash flow month so had to wait. Luckily I didn't wait too long though as it's now sold out, but some pieces in the print are still available. The print reminds me of Memphis Group Design with it's bold squares and dots in and use of bright colours. According to Dezeen Memphis design is currently making a comeback, albeit a more subtle paired back version - which you can definitely see elements of around Melbourne - from Sportsgirls Bourke Street window earlier this year, to the fit out and even donut decoration over at All Day Donuts, and even local jewellery designer Emily Green has created a Memphis inspired collection. You heard it here first #Memphis is totally trending right now!

Even these sunglasses are a bit Memphis-y. These are another piece I've wanted for a long time, over a year in fact. No idea why I waited so long as I bloody love them. The eye print necklace I picked up at the recent Finders Keepers design market in Melbourne, it's smaller than most of the necklaces I wear which makes a nice change.

I bought this ridiculous faux fur bag on a recent trip to Camberwell market. I only paid $5 for it and didn't really notice the 'See by Chloe' label until I got home, I just loved it's awesome faux fur crazyness. I'm 99% sure it is fake as I only paid $5 for it but for me it wasn't the label I bought it for, it was the crazyness of the bag. I have to be careful when walking down the street with it though as some dogs go crazy thinking it's another dog, twice it's been kinda attacked by dogs, they just lunge for it and bark like crazy #funtimes.

My most recent trip to Japan was during their spring, meaning most of the clothes in the shops and that I bought were spring/summer pieces not really suited to the freezing cold winter Melbourne has been having. Thankfully that cold weather is now finally over as we are officially into our spring and Melbourne has sure been showing us some beautiful sunny days of late. This of course means I can finally wear all the clothes I bought in Tokyo that have been tucked away in my wardrobe taunting me with their cuteness all winter long! This cute white dress being one of them. By one of my all time favourite Japanese labels Ne-Net who I first saw at Tokyo Fashion Week back in 2007 (can someone tell my why I wrote my blog in red text back then?) and have loved ever since. This dress with it's oversized collar, drawstring waist and super kawaii penguin embroidery just had to be mine. I've spoken before how Japanese brands are generally one size fits all and this brand is no exception. This means not every piece I love will fit me so as soon as I find one that does I buy it straight away. Annoyingly this means they're often a little short on me but I can live with that for the cuteness of the design - I'll just wear them with leggings!

I know I've been promising this for a while - I bought so much and the video ended up being so long. In the end I decided to publish the video anyway because it really is full of some of my most favourite ever buys from Tokyo. Somehow I fit in a lot of shopping in just 11 days in Tokyo. From Punyus to Tsumori Chisato and all my usual Tokyo cheap places this is one epic haul! Enjoy xoxo

Speaking Up Against Victim Blaming and Rape Culture

$

0

This is a post a long time coming. I've written many drafts of this post over the past few weeks. I don't really write truly personal posts anymore preferring to keep my blog a light and happy space of pink, sparkles and jelly shoes, but this most recent incident finally made me decide to hit publish on this honest post even though being this open scares me. I think it's finally time for me to speak out and say something. I have a relatively large audience and as such I feel a responsibility to write what I'm about to write because if I stay silent then I am complicit for it to keep happening. This sort of thing needs to be talked about because our silence just hides the problem and lets it continue.

I am talking about sexual assault.

The first time I was raped (yes, first time implies it has happened more than once, well it has!) I was only 13 years old. I was raped by my 16 year old boyfriend at the time, who upon reflection, was grooming me and attacked me in a premeditated way. I was 13, he was 16. I first met him at an inter-school sports day where I was playing table tennis on the team of my new school at my old high school that I had just left because of extreme bullying.

I don't really remember meeting him, he just was there staring at me throughout the day as I played table tennis with my team mates. He was a young smiley Asian boy in clothes that were obviously very old as they were slightly worn and torn in places. I do remember at lunch time he came up to me and introduced himself and that his name was really similar to my own, Hi-Lee. We played tag in the school yard with our friends, it was an innocent day as we were still in that youthful stage of life where games like that are fun. He didn't come from my high school or my previous high school but rather one of the others who were competing in the inter-school sports day with schools from around the inner North and inner West.

The next time I saw him was a few days, weeks or perhaps even months later I don't exactly remember the timeline but I do remember what happened. At the time I lived with my sister and mother in a rented townhouse in Coburg just opposite a park. The street was filled with friends - both children and adults - and we felt safe in this street knowing there was always someone watching. Our home life was less idyllic, but that's another story.

My 11 year old sister was playing alone in the park across the road from our house. The very park that, when we first moved in, we weren't allowed to play in alone, back when our mum was still our mum and our lives were more normal. Something had changed in those months, what I realise now was a mental breakdown, she had stopped caring or being present. So my sister was at the park and I was at home on the couch taking a nap after a long day at school. My sister came into the lounge room and woke me up saying she had someone who knew me with her and as I opened my eyes I saw that very same Asian boy from the inter-school sports day, although at first as I had just woken up I thought he was someone from my primary school days. So I guessed "Chen?" and my sister laughed and said no this boy came up to me and said he knew you, this is Hi-Lee. I was really confused at this stage as my sister had never met Hi-Lee but apparently he thought she was me at the park because back then we really did look like twins. So Hi-Lee was in my house. I have absolutely no idea what happened next other than suddenly Hi-Lee was my boyfriend and was coming around to my house every day after school. He had another friend in the street, a boy who was actually in my class at school but who hated me for some reason or another. So after spending time with me he would go over to his friends house.

Every visit got more and more intense, he only wanted to make out and touch me and always asked to see me naked. I was 13, a virgin and not at all ready for any of this but I wanted a boyfriend really badly so I went along with most of it. I was a bit of a hippy at the time and my bedroom was full of candles so he would light those to set the mood when he came over. I also wore weird tie died lingerie over my clothes as a fashion statement at the time (the 90's hey?) and he would ask me to only wear the lingerie nothing else. It was all moving too fast so I stopped answering my door to him and just hoped he would go away. But he kept coming back. So one day I decided I would go over to the park and tell him that it was over between us, that it was all going way too fast for me, that I didn't want to do any of the things he was making me do. He somehow convinced me to go into the public bathroom with him and that's where it happened. Suddenly he was up against me with his pants at his feet and I remember he already had a condom on but it had a big hole in it at the tip and I knew thanks to my mothers sex ed advice that that wasn't right and I tried to say so. He just forced me to turn around and stuck it in from behind. I was saying someone might come can we please stop and he wouldn't stop. It didn't last very long and when it was over I went home and cried myself to sleep.

He came back the next day and I made my sister tell him I never wanted to see him again while I hid under a blanket on the couch. He never returned to my street, not even to visit his friend. Although I did see him on the tram on my way home from school about a year later and he was with a few friends and he pointed and laughed at me.

I never told my mum about this and as such I never went to the police. My sister knew but we were only young and I was really scared about what would happen if anyone found out. I had a lot of shame from it and for the rest of that year I think I alienated myself from my friends as I would cry at the drop of a hat at any moment, even a fun birthday party. I always would say I was sad about my parents divorce years earlier which wasn't the truth at all.

The next sexual assault happened at a fabric shop on Sydney Road. But in between this incident and the next one there were a few minor incidents that have also stayed with me. One was when I was 15 and on my way to my first day of year 9 work experience. I was on the tram reading a magazine and the guy opposite me was touching rubbing my leg with his leg in a way that initially I thought was just an accident. But as it kept continuing I decided to move away. Then he followed me and sat opposite me again and rubbed my leg even harder. I tried to just ignore what was happening by really focussing on the magazine I was reading because I was afraid of what might happen if I called him out on it and the embarrassment that would follow. It was finally my stop so I stood up and he asked me if he could come with me! I was 15! He was at least in his 30's. I said 'No, sorry (why did I apologise to this creep?) I'm on my way to work experience' He said 'that's okay it won't take long'. I yelled 'No you can not come with me!!!' and quickly jumped off the tram hoping he didn't follow me which luckily he didn't. This was around 8:30 in the morning on a crowded tram. I didn't know at the time that this was something you could report to the police. Oh and then the boss at where I did my work experience would always try to hug me and somehow his hand always ended up on my breast. Jesus just remembering this now.

Another incident happened when I was 16 and I had just got a falafel for dinner and was waiting for the tram home eating it at the tram stop. A male in his early 20s came up to me and sat next to me at the tram stop. This was a busy intersection on Sydney Road but there were no other people around and it was about 7pm at night. Anyway he was watching me intensely as I ate the falafel. Eventually he said he loved watching me eat that, it was turning him on and could I please kiss him. Luckily at that exact moment my tram came and I was able to jump on and get away.

A more serious thing then happened about 6 months into my relationship with Henry when I was 16. FYI not by Henry. Anyway I had a school assignment for my VCE Studio Fashion class and I was shopping for fabric along Sydney Road. I headed into a fabric shop (which no longer exists) and whilst browsing the fabric on display I don't notice that the owner of the shop locked the door behind me. I chose my fabric and go up to the owner at the counter for him to cut it, he says he has something to show my out the back room. Thinking it was a better version of the fabric I chose I follow him in. Instead of showing me fabric he opens a drawer and pulls out a porn magazine (this is the time before the internet on phones/everywhere). I get frightened at this point and go to walk to the door but he says it's locked and that he knows sluts like me from Princes Hill (the high school I attended) like to suck cock and that he would pay me $50 to suck his dick. I am scared and say that I'm not like that, I have a boyfriend. He says it doesn't matter. So then I say my mum is outside waiting for me in the car and she will get worried and come in if I don't leave soon. I back out of the back room and there are two old ladies knocking on the door of the shop as it's only 4pm and it's meant to still be open. Because they have seen me and he believes my mum is out the front he lets me go but only if I promise to return the next day. I leave without my fabric and get home where I immediatly phone Henry and tell him what happened. My mum gets home and I tell her and then we call the police. A female detective is sent over and we go through my version of events. As I didn't remember the address we had to jump in her unmarked police car and drive past the shop so I could point it out. She refers me to CASA for counseling and then a few weeks later I am invited down to the Sydney Road police station to do a photo line up. It had been some time since the incident but I pick out the guy who jumped out as me as being the one. The next thing I was told a few weeks or months later was that there wasn't enough evidence against the guy (I believe part of that was because I chose the wrong guy in the photo line up) and the police officer I spoke to advised me to not go within 100 metres of the shop which I never followed because Spotlight was opposite and I was a really into fashion and sewing and craft you guys! I did avoid his side of the street though. Still do to this day really.

The next incident happened when I was 20 and living above a restaurant in Fitzroy on Brunswick Street. It was the first house that Henry and I lived together in and we shared with my sister, the same arrangement that we have now, Anyway my sister and her friend and I decided to go out on Smith Street to one of our usual band nights at a venue that has long since changed hands. We dressed up and headed out. I think I may have been fighting with Henry at the time because he didn't come out with us. I got pretty drunk and remember maybe trying to chat up some guys in a band (I was 20 afterall!) Anyway at some point it was decided that Henry would come and meet us. I went outside to the street to try and find him (he may not have had a mobile phone yet at this stage, I can't remember but do know he was late to getting one) and I drunkenly asked a guy standing out front of Copacabana if he had seen my boyfriend. He said he had and to follow him and in my drunken stupor I believed him. He led me across the street with his friend in tow to the public toilet block (it is still there although it is modern electric one now, back then it was brown brick I believe) and his friend stood watch at the doorway as he raped me while I cried out no, no no and Henry's name over and over. I think they must have got scared because it didn't last very long. When it was over I left the toilet block in tears and suddenly saw Henry who had been madly looking for me up and down the street as I had been some time. I told him what happened and his reaction was one of anger - at me for getting so drunk and putting myself in that situation. He pushed me into a taxi and took me home. The taxi driver asked me why I was crying so much so I told him I had been raped and he just had this shocked look on his face. Henry and I never really talked about the incident again for a few years and I never went to the police because after my last experience with them I didn't trust that anything would happen so I prefered to ignore it and it would all go away. Henry and I know now that we both handled the situation badly, and he and I are a lot more informed on consent, rape culture and the blame and shame game that goes on. So he has apologised over and over for how he reacted. He did comfort me at the time too, but his anger is what I remember most. And who could blame him when the culture around rape is full of victim blaming. Just look at this recent report where 1 in 5 Australian's believe drunk women are to partially to blame for their rape.

Then a few years passed and nothing really happened. That was until 29th September 2012. I remember the date because that is also the date that the news of Jill Meagher's body being found the night before broke. The story was headline news since the disappearance of Jill a week earlier where I grew up in Brunswick, Melbourne. I was living in Sydney with Henry at the time and the story really hit close to home because of all the things that had happened to me in that very area. Anyway on the morning of the 29th I was on the train to Kings Cross on my way to an ASOS event during morning peak hour. It's actually funny how I ended up on the train as I had asked the ASOS PR if there was any way to get a car service to the really out of the way venue (a totally normal request in Sydney which has pretty terrible public transport) but the best they could do was have me meet the guests flown in from Melbourne at their Kings Cross hotel and get into the car service they were getting. I in no way blame the PR for what happened to me, it's just an unusual situation that led to me being on that train. Anyway I got on the train at my local station, Redfern. I had timed the train perfectly to arrive in time for the car service. I was standing in the middle of the carriage nearest to the main middle pole when suddenly I felt a hand rubbing against my pubic area. I thought to myself, well this is a crowded train surely this is just an accident so I moved away as much as the crowd allowed. But the hand followed and got a bit more purposeful in it's groping. So I moved again this time really moving my body away so that there was no way the hand could reasonably follow unless it was doing so with intent. Well of course the hand followed so I knocked the hand away and pushed the chest of the guy who was doing the rubbing and said "Hey stop touching my vagina" and he took of his sunglasses (he was wearing sunglasses in the dark subway) and placed them on his head whilst angrily denying he had been touching me. I said whilst looking around to everyone for some support or help "No, you were touching my vagina like this" and I made a hand gesture of what he was doing. Everyone stared at me like I was insane and the train came to a stop and he hurriedly got off at Central Station along with just about everyone in the carriage. I immediately sat down to calm myself down and typed out a text message to Henry who told me to report it to the police. When I got off at Kings Cross station there were two police officers standing beside the ticket turnstiles. I went up to them and told them what happened and asked them what I should do. They said it was a sexual assault and I needed to go to the police station right away to make a report. I said I had this really important work meeting I had to go to so I didn't have time right away to go. They urged me to skip it and go but I was determined to go to this bloody ASOS event - I was wearing a free dress from the brand and was looking forward to seeing all my blogger friends. So they told me to write down my version of events straight away so that I don't forget any details and then go to a police station as soon as I could. As soon as I got to the hotel I asked the staff for some paper and a pen and set to writing out what had just happened including details on what the guy was wearing and the time of the train I was on. I went to the event which was actually personally I think the best decision I made as it was really fun and I would've really regretted not going later on, letting him win in a way. As soon as the event was over I headed to Kings Cross police station where I made my official statement with a female detective. As the incident happened outside of their jurisdiction the matter was handled by the Sydney CBD police station from then on with a really lovely female detective. I had to go down and do another photo line up but this time because of my last experience with it I was too scared to pick the wrong person so I picked out no one and ended up crying.  It also had been a few months after it had happened so I couldn't be sure of his face anymore. I was told that the same guy was being investigated for a similar incident with another young woman and he had admitted that is was him on the CCTV at the station but denied both allegations, which again made me cry, having it happen to someone else. Unfortunately there was no CCTV on both the trains me and this other girl were on. For the past two years I've been updated every few months or so about the legal process and investigation, and I had agreed to fly back to Sydney after I moved down to Melbourne if there ever was a trial.

In the end though, about three weeks ago, the prosecutor decided there wasn't enough evidence to charge the guy. Even though there were two separate incidents and victims reporting him, he admitted he was at the scene and cctv places him there. He denied the allegations you see so it becomes he says she says. Oh and the train I was on had no cctv inside the train so there was no footage of the incident. But my detective said the fact that he seemingly hasn't done it again as no one else has reported him means reporting him was important as it may have stopped further attacks which made me feel better. The police questioning him was enough for him to get scared. Also if he does do it again there is all the evidence from my report and the other victims so they can build a better case against him next time, but hopefully there won't be a next time. So at least it stays on his record. The system is fucked but reporting is important!

I actually wrote that last paragraph on my facebook wall at the time of learning that the case wasn't going ahead. I decided I had been silent for too long and that people needed to know what had happened to me and that what I did in reporting wasn't a waste of time. I got a lot of messages of support which were fantastic but one message really stood out from the others. It was from an old high school friend who I haven't seen or spoken to in years. She wrote to me to tell me that my status update had given her the courage to report what had happened to her. That's when I knew I had to share my story on my blog and really get the message out there. As with what we learnt from the Jill Meagher incident, the people who do these crimes are usually serial attackers and all reports can help lead to a conviction if the police do their job right, no matter how minor the incident may be.

So that is where I am at now. With yet another incident to report to the police only this time it has happened to my sister. Just this Monday past my sister was riding her bicycle home from seeing a movie with me and Henry in the city. The movie finished around 11:50pm and after dissecting the film, which was great by the way (Gone Girl, you have to see it! We had actually all read the book over the 2012 Christmas break as a sort of family book club so seeing the film together was important) Henry and I headed to the number 11 tram whilst my sister got on her bike to head home. We could see her from the tram most of the way, waving every time we spotted each other. She rode home via Gertrude Street whilst our tram went down Brunswick Street. On Gertrude Street, just before the Napier Street intersection a man was crouching down between two parked cars. As my sister rode by him he jumped out and swung a helmet at her head trying to knock her off her bike whilst yelling something about 'fucking' her. She managed to duck and swerve narrowly missing the helmet coming at her and quickly rode all the way home without stopping. Once inside she tried calling me to warn me not to walk home that way but my phone was still on silent from the movie. She then remembered we were on the 11 tram and not the 86 so we should be fine so she went to the bathroom to try and calm herself down. Not more than 2 minutes later we walked in to find her visibly shaken and she quickly told us what happened. At this point we thought the best thing to do would be to head over to the local Fitzroy police station which is not more than two blocks away. Rather than call 000 as we weren't sure of how much of an emergency it was and we knew that we wanted to make a statement. When we got to the police station it was staffed by a very young policeman who told us he was only on his second ever night shift. He seemed to write down the incorrect information in his notebook - he wrote down a neon workmans jacket when my sister had explained a blue workmans jacket with a neon reflective strip. He also added a 0 to our home address. He did tell us that they had just had a 000 zero call from the same location and that there were police heading that way now to investigate. We were told it wasn't necessary to make an official statement and were told to just call back the next day to follow it up and see what happened as he said they would check CCTV the next day. We left not feeling exactly confident about what had happened but felt reassured by a friend who we had seen the movie with and who was on the 86 tram around that time as her tram was delayed by a police car blocking the tram tracks in that exact same spot.

However since then every time my sister has called back the police station they don't know anything about the incident. There isn't an official report as yet and it's been nearly four days. They kept saying someone would call her back and they never did. They said call back at particular times and we did and the same thing is repeated to us - they don't know anything about it. And to make matters worse my sister was advised  by a female police officer to not go out at night and if she must to stick to main roads - which is what she was doing anyway. To hear a female police officer victim blaming my sister was the last straw. We were trying to do the right thing, report an incident and yet it was not taken seriously by the police and the onus was put back onto us to not get ourselves in dangerous situations. It seems that noting has changed since my last dealings with Victoria Police nearly 15 years ago as a 16 year old when I was told to not go near the fabric shop where the attempted rape happened.

Frustrated by this lack of response I took to twitter yesterday to try and get someone at Victoria Police to take this matter seriously. After a few retweets and a channel 9 news journalist getting involved the police finally took action. My sister was contacted directly by Fitzroy station and they made a time for her to make an official statement last night so that they could search for her attacker. What happened to her is an assault, it is serious. If we had called 000 they would have had to follow up the call and the records would all have been kept properly so my advice is to call 000 if something like this were to happen to you. It saddens me that it took me taking it to twitter for the matter to be followed up correctly especially in light of what I thought the police had learnt from the Jill Meagher incident. Her attacker was a serial rapist out on parole. Seemingly minor assaults weren't followed up and he was allowed to remain out in society.

My sister was not at fault for riding her bike home at midnight on a Monday night. I was not at fault for being drunk like any other young person out that night back when I was 20. The victim blaming doesn't help end rape or sexual assaults it simply allows it to continue. Only the rapist or attacker is at fault! My experiences show that it doesn't matter if it's 8:30in the morning or midnight there is no 'safe' time or place. Something needs to change within our culture where the onus is put back onto the rapist to NOT RAPE.

The only way to make this happen I believe is to report every incident and follow it up with the police and make sure they're doing their job no matter how minor it may be. Don't allow them or anyone to victim blame you and ignore what has happened. It could save lives and it is important.

Thank you.

Jean Paul Gaultier at the NGV

I was lucky enough to be invited to the media preview of the seriously AMAZING Jean Paul Gaultier exhibition 'From the Sidewalk to the Catwalk' at the NGV. Deciding what to wear was a challenge, what does one wear to meet one of the worlds most high profile fashion designers? I had originally planned on wearing Breton stripes in honour of some of Jean Paul Gaultier's more iconic looks but unfortunately all my stripped tees were in the wash. So I went with my polkadot cropped top instead and I think it worked out fine.

There was an interesting panel discussion with the curators and Mr Gaultier himself and an old friend of mine, Andreja Pejić, Gaultier talked about his long time collaborations with Australian muses from Kylie Minogue, Nicole Kidman and to Pejic. Gaultier was the first big international designer to cast androgynous Pejic to walk for his Paris catwalk show. Gaultier is known for his diverse casting choices using plus size signer Beth Ditto as a catwalk model and casting Pejic as both a male and a female which propelled her into fame. As most of you are aware Andreja Pejic has recently undergone sexual reassignment surgery and is now legally named Andreja. She is currently making a documentary about that transition and her life, raising the needed funds via her Kickstarter campaign so please donate! The discussion covered everything from the food in Melbourne to coming out and discovering who you are. Gaultier was absolutely entertaining to listen to, you could hear the passion and joy in his voice he has for what he does. It was amazing to be in the same room as such a talent, something I will never forget.

Now onto the exhibition itself which features the first dress Gaultier created in 1971 to the iconic stage costumes Madonna wore for her 1990 Blond Ambition tour and more recent pieces from both his ready to wear and haute couture collections.

Animated mannequin faces, including Jean Paul Gaultier talk to you as you look at the exhibition.

Bringing the exhibition to life!

Diverse body shapes, something that Gaultier is passionate about.

Amazing to see Madonna's infamous and iconic cone corset's in person.

Amazing detail!

Another plus size mannequin.

No words other than WOW!

The exhibition is a must see for any fashion lover. Having the chance to see beautiful hand crafted haute couture pieces is a once in a lifetime opportunity. I was blown away.

Check out the Friday Nights at Jean Paul Gaultier program for a list of dj's and art talks that are happening throughout the exhibition.

In attendance at the media preview was the amazingly talented Tallulah from the Art Kid Tallulah blog. Tallulah's blog is incredible as is her eye for style, especially for someone only in year 7! I was so excited that she was invited to the media preview because her blog is incredible and she deserves the invite more than most. There as a very touching moment where she was overwhelmed by how amazing the exhibition was and how amazingly the media were treating Andreja Pejic and her transitioning story that Tallulah burst into tears. It's an issue close to her heart with friends at school coming out and being able to introduce Tallulah to Andraja was an amazing moment. Watch of for Tallulah everyone, she is sure to be the next teen blogger sensation of substance.

My old friend Greta from FASHGIF was also there wearing the most amazing Comme des Garçons felt jacket and that Christopher Kane clutch. So stylish!

Another guest was the always lovely Nicole from Circa Vintage whose bright pink hair caught the attention of Jean Paul Gaultier. Nicole's new book Style is Eternal will be released very soon but you can pre-order it now.

Leeyong Soo from Style Wilderness always looks amazing in her hand crafted and vintage outfits. I mean working at Japanese Vogue for eight years you'd have to be pretty stylish.

What I wore. As I mentioned earlier I had planned on wearing Breton stripes with this look but I'm glad I didn't as they would have been a bit cliché .

I like that little hint of skin under my crop top on the side.

The cropped top is this interesting square shape. #interesting

My lipstick got a lot of compliments. It's Australis Velourlips Matte Lip Cream in Mal-li-boo pink.

Not going to lie - I kinda hate how much this dress wrinkles!

My backpack is one of the Opening Ceremony for Adidas pieces I got for crazy cheap at the Adidas outlet store at DFO South Wharf. I got it for only $45 and I'm obsessed with it.

Egg socks why not?

La Mascara High Tea with The Real Housewives of Melbourne

Oh My God! Those were my words when the invite for the La Mascara High Tea afternoon garden party for me and my plus one arrived in my inbox. OH MY GOD! You see my bff's and I are obsessed with The Real Housewives of Melbourne. We had weekly viewing parties at my house, dissected that infamous anonymous email with it projected on my big screen tv so we could analyze every word and I even rushed out to buy La Mascara the day it was launched for our own little tasting and reunion episode watching soirée. I replied immediately saying just how excited I was for the event, how the invite had made my day/week/month/year and how my best friends and I are obsessed with the show and that I was very excited to come along for the launch dressed in my retro best. The lovely PR wrote back and told me I could invite a few more guests to come along with me which blew my mind even more! Sharing in the opportunities that blogging brings with the people I love is so much fun, especially when you know how happy it will make them. Unfortunately one of our #RHOM obsessives girl gang member is currently overseas (well not so unfortunately as she is having an amazing time, but you know!) so it was my friends Laurie and Charlotte and my sister Ebony who I chose as my guests. Now actually Ebony doesn't watch #RHOM as she leads a very busy and full life unlike the rest of us (haha) but truthfully she actually works with one of the biggest stars of the show, Gina Liano, so she feels uncomfortable watching her on tv in a way. As you're all probably aware in Gina's other life she is a lawyer, and my sister works in the same field and see's Gina almost daily, working on the same cases. I actually knew about the show and Gina's involvement long before it was officially announced because Eb was in the know. Ebony is very professional and will never gossip but she would answer any questions us obsessives had about Gina - like does she really wear those sparkly dresses and super high heels to court? The answer being yes, although with less cleavage on show. AMAZING right? That just made us love Gina more. Anyway would you believe we didn't actually co-ordinate our outfits to all be wearing pink to the event? It just worked out that way (because we're all amazing #duh!)

Laurie looked stunning in her vintage pink trousers and blouse and those pink fringed flatforms from ASOS! She borrowed my Miu Miu red glitter sunglasses, neon pink clutch and pink flower headband to finish off the look. Honestly Laurie always looks incredible but this may just be my favourite look yet!

Ebony wore her new pale pink Topshop culottes with rose gold shoes and accessories. Her rose gold heels are from Wittner, the rose gold clutch is from Kleins Perfumery and the rose gold bangle is by Estelle Dévé. To top it all off she wore a vintage scarf fashioned into a turban. Looking very glam!

Charlotte rocked the hell out of her Alice Edgeley sequin turban and vintage dress combo! You can always count on me for some pink accessories so Charlotte borrowed my pink vintage clutch which was actually my mothers from the 1970's. How amazing does she look?

 #Glamourous

The event was held at the historic Rippon Lea Estate which was built in 1868. The gardens were set up with vintage games for the high tea like croquet and the above badminton.

Lot's of handsome guests were in attendance.

Happy Camper Pizza were on hand to make freshly made to your liking pizza's, even catering to the vegan's and vegetarians amongst us (which is rare at a catered event!)

The event was to launch La Mascara's new range of alcoholic ice tea's called High Tea. Truthfully they were actually really delicious, sometimes pre-mixed drinks like these can be too sweet but I think the tea flavour helped unsweeten it. These are going to be perfect for summer!

 The Tequila shots were dangerous!

Can't get over how amazing we all looked!

Janet from #RHOM getting in on some badminton action.

So many vintage babes!

 Too fabulous!

 OMG!

I wore my pastel splash Gorman dress with a new Forever New floral headpiece, Tony Bianco pastel pink slides and a silver Decjuba bag (which is perfect for events like this cos it fits my camera!).

I just wanted to hang out here forever. Such a beautiful location!

Now time for some #RHOM #selfie action. Here we are with the oh so lovely and chic Chyka and her daughter. This is the second time I've met Chyka at an event now and she remembered me! She said my wardrobe must be fabulous because I always look incredible. Yep, I died right then and there!

Here we all are with new #RHOM housewife Gamble Breaux whose style is just incredible. Can't wait to see her on the show next season!

OMG Janet too! So fabulous in person, watching next season is going to be even better having met her.

The QUEEN! Ginal Liano you have my heart and you wore pink too!!! How did you know it's my favourite colour? My sister introduced us between filming (we weren't allowed to interrupt them during takes) but unfortunately we didn't manage to get a #selfie with her as she was so busy, but there's always next time! We also met Ben 'the rockstar' from Silverchair (check out my instagram for my #selfie snap with him) and spoke to Jackie briefly too but it was her big launch so again she was too busy filming for us to interrupt her but safe to say she looked amazing stealing the show. I can not wait until season two begins next year now, this has made me even more obsessed with these incredible glamourous ladies. I'm totally having a big La Mascara party at my place the night this episode airs to celebrate, whose in? Hopefully you'll be able to see us all in the background, we sure do stand out. Pink ladies forever!!!

Spring looks at Melbourne Central

Melbourne Central recently invited me and a few other bloggers down for an indulgent day of shopping (on them!) to check out their spring racing offerings. Saying yes was a no brainer really and it turned out to be a really fantastic day. Everyone at Melbourne Central I worked with was amazing and there really is such a large range of fabulous things in store! I must address the elephant (or horse!) in the room though and say that as a vegetarian and animal lover, I am morally opposed to the races. This is due to the issues of wastage and animal cruelty. I am not opposed to dressing up and having fun and I won't begrudge anyone that. I also understand how important the season is to local retailers and designers, some of whom may also have the same feelings as me about racing being cruel but the economics of it make it an integral part of their business this time of year. Well the same can be said about me. As a 'professional' (lol) fashion blogger I too need to make money and create interesting content and spring racing season is about as big a fashion event we get here in Melbourne. I would prefer to be honest and open with you than to fake it and I certainly don't judge anyone for going at all. I don't think it's up to me to change anyone's minds about attending, other than informing you of my position and the way I look at it. I love looking at the creative outfits people wear in the fashions on the field, some are even designed by friends of mine. I just won't ever attend, even though I get invited every year and sent countless press releases about all the celebrities attending. However, I can have my springtime glamour and fun at plenty of other wonderful events this season, as there’s plenty of excuses to dress up already. This outfit is ideal for garden parties, bbq's or even just a day of shopping if like me you take any chance you get to dress up. Thank you to the team at Melbourne Central for a super fun day.

These pastel pink  Tony Bianco slides are a dream come true. I've wanted a pair of slides for a while and this pink shade is as you know my absolute favourite.

This silver Decjuba bag has been a lifesaver recently at events. I never seem to have a bag that is right for an evening event that can also fit my bulky slr camera. So happy with this bag, it's been to three events so far, somehow the shiny silver just goes with everything!

This cuff is simply stunning. They were explaining to me in store how the turquoise is dyed to get that great deep pink colour yet still have those trademark turquoise speckles. Really cool.

The rooftop at Melbourne Central was the perfect location for the photoshoot. I got to see angles of the city I have never even seen before, was really cool to be allowed up there.

The purple necklace from Tilkah was perfect for wearing under my collar.

The team at Evoke Hair had very little hair to work with - there really isn't much you can do with such a short bob. But they did an amazing job and I was very happy with the results. The make-up by Gorgeous Cosmetics in house make-up artists was flawless - they airbrushed on my foundation which was a first for me and now I want it every day it was just so incredible. I was really happy with my eyes as the eyeliner was perfect too. If only I could have a make-up artist everyday.
